The New York State Presenters Network Fall Conference was held last month at the Empire State Plaza in Albany, featuring panel discussions on programming, audience development, marketing, fundraising, venue management and other issues pertaining to presenting the performing arts.
The conference was also a great opportunity for local arts fans to sample a wide range of performing arts absolutely free of charge, as the conference opened up its showcase performances to the public.
As part of the conference, The Egg hosted two nights of showcase performances – featuring a diverse array of performances from the gospel-jazz of the Don Byron New Gospel Quintet to the modern dance of Kyle Abraham.In.Motion to the acoustic blues of Rory Block.
In all, there were a dozen different performances of first-class, NYS-homegrown talent spread across the back-to-back mid-week evening showcases.
Jazz guitarist Julian Lage performed solo at the showcase on Tuesday, October 16, but he’ll be returning to town for a full-fledged concert with his band – also featuring saxophonist Dan Blake, cellist Aristides Rivas, bassist Jorge Roeder and drummer Tupac Mantilla at 8pm on Friday (November 2) at Skidmore College’s Zankel Music Center in Saratoga Springs. Tix are $8; seniors $5; students and children free.
