COMEDY: Mike Birbiglia @ the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall, Troy. The Music Hall has been booking a batch of comedians, and the only question is, “What took ’em so long?” It’s a great theater for laughmakers, and Birbiglia is one of the best. With this show, the award-winning filmmaker, author and comedian offers painfully awkward stories about telling jokes and how that can get you in trouble. 8pm. $29 & $34; $5 discount for students.

MUSIC: Gurf Morlix @ Caffe Lena, Saratoga Springs. Buffalo-born but an adopted Texan through-and-through, the fab singer-songwriter spent 11 years as Lucinda Williams’ guitarist; toured with Emmylou Harris and Steve Earle; and produced albums for Gilkyson and Gauthier. His grit, soul and innate musicality are just right on blues, Western swing and ballads. 8pm. $18.

THEATER: “Untitled #21: The Heart of D Cheney & Other Concerns” @ Time + Space Limited, Hudson. An installation performance featuring Linda Mussmann’s musings on Dick Cheney’s heart. “She kept thinking about Cheney and those heart attacks and heart pumps and wires and hemoraging and shortness of breath and slow steps and near death and getting in line for a transplant at the age of 71 and waiting for the transplant and, then, bingo! . . . ” In collaboration with Claudia Bruce and Bryce Courbois. 7pm. $10.

THEATER: “Gypsy: A Musical Fable” @ Capital Repertory Theatre, Albany.”Everything’s Coming Up Roses…” Maggie Mancinelli-Cahill directs the classic musical based on the memoirs of famed stripper Gypsy Rose Lee, featuring a cast of 23 from Broadway star Mary Callanan to local TV personality Benita Zahn. 8pm. $20-$65. Through April 13.

MUSIC: Glen David Andrews @ Club Helsinki, Hudson. A member of the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame, the singer-trombonist brings his jazzy, horn-laced New Orleans funk ‘n’ soul band back to Club Helsinki. 9pm. $22.
