The 2014 FreshGrass Award Winners

At last month’s FreshGrass festival at MASS MoCA in North Adams, the FreshGrass Award was expanded to include not only a competition for Best Band, but also in the categories of Best Duo and Best Banjo Player.
The winners received cash, prizes, a recording session at Compass Records’ Nashville studio and a spot onstage at FreshGrass 2015.
Here’s the round-up of the 2014 FreshGrass Award winners:
BAND GRAND PRIZE: Twisted Pine
Second Prize: Many Nights Ahead
Third Prize: Circa Blue
Additional competing finalists: Eastbound Jesus and the Sons of Bluegrass
DUO GRAND PRIZE: Quiles & Cloud
Second Prize: Tatiana Hargreaves & Ethan Jodziewicz
Third Prize: Molly Tuttle & John Mailander
Additional competing finalists: No Bones About It and Caleb Klauder & Reeb Willms
BANJO GRAND PRIZE: Ricky Mier (of Twisted Pine)
Second Prize: Gabe Hirshfeld (of the Lonely Heartstring Band)
Third Prize: Douglas Jay Goldstein (of Cricket Tell the Weather)
Additional competing finalists: Jordan Alleman (of Damn Tall Buildings) and Walker Turner (of Many Nights Ahead)

Twisted Pine played the nastiest set late on Friday night at the popup stage, boots were stomping and arms were swinging hard. They are incredibly talented and energetic musicians, definitely deserve both wins.
