Ribbon Cutting and Free Family Art Program in Albany on October 30th

The Albany County Historical Association | Ten Broeck Mansion announces a ribbon-cutting ceremony to reconnect the historic Ten Broeck Land Plot on Wednesday, October 30 at 2 pm.  This historic moment provides new educational and cultural opportunities for the Arbor Hill Community and residents of the Capital Region, by reconnecting the historic Ten Broeck land plot for the first time in over 150 years.  The Honorable Kathy Sheehan, Mayor of Albany, will be in attendance, along with local officials.

The restored landscape with a wooden staircase, built by ACHA Board members and volunteers, provides complete east-west access to the Mansion, gardens, and galleries and exhibit spaces at King’s Place, a restored Greek-revival structure built in 1852-56 in the form of a Roman arch.  The Albany Housing Authority collaborated with the ACHA by providing landscaping and constructing a connecting walkway to the educational spaces at King’s Place.  The community is invited and free refreshments are provided by Cider Belly Doughnuts, Albany NY.

A free Pre-Halloween family art program is held October 30 from 2:45-4 pm at King’s Place (access from Ten Broeck Parking lot via the new stairway).   Children will create a special art project to take home along with painting rocks.  The art program is free with all supplies provided.

The ACHA is a 501c3 educational nonprofit historic house museum with a Charter from the State of New York.  The ACHA’s mission is to preserve, present, promote, and interpret the stories of the rich and diverse history and culture of Albany County. 

The Ten Broeck Mansion was built in 1798 by Abraham and Elizabeth Ten Broeck.  Ten Broeck served as mayor of Albany and was a general in the Battle of Saratoga.  The ACHA was founded in 1942, and received the 1798 Ten Broeck Mansion as a gift from the Olcott family in 1948, which has served as the ACHA’s home base ever since.
