FIVE FIRSTS: Jesse Bolduc of Candy Ambulance

1. THE FIRST ALBUM I EVER BOUGHT WAS … “…Baby One More Time” by Britney Spears. I was in second grade, and I didn’t have any portable music device yet. When I thought the time was right, I went to my nearest music store, and I picked out myself a Walkman. By Walkman, I mean the cassette version. Of course, since I was getting a cassette player, I needed a cassette to go with it. At the time I was really into Britney Spears. It wasn’t even because she was hot. My second grade self just thought she was an excellent musician.

2. THE FIRST CONCERT THAT I EVER SAW WAS … A Nickelodeon one that my mom took me to. I don’t remember when in my life this happened, but I was young, and it was at SPAC. That’s in Saratoga, for those who didn’t know that. I obviously don’t remember the name of it, but Kennen and Kel were there, along with that group that covered that “Hey Mickey, you’re so fine” song. I remember that and the fact that I drank too much sprite earlier that day, and I had to make quite a few bathroom trips.

3. THE FIRST MUSICAL INSTRUMENT I EVER OWNED OR PLAYED WAS … An acoustic guitar. A long time ago my uncle gave an acoustic guitar to my brother. It was the kind with nylon strings. I guess my brother gave it to me at some point because I ended up with it. Unfortunately, I didn’t know how to play it. I eventually traded it to my cousin, in return for her freedom. She became my slave. It was sweet.

4. THE FIRST SONG THAT I EVER PERFORMED IN PUBLIC WAS … “Angelica Pickles” by Carry the Tradition. It was our first show. It wasn’t even a show really. It was a birthday party, but it was in public. It was a good time. We probably didn’t sound very good though.

5. THE FIRST BAND I WAS EVER IN WAS … Carry the Tradition. It’s made up of Mike Merced, Chris Cronin and Jon Cantiello. How we came together still has me believing it was fate, or whatever law of nature you would like call it. Jon was in my fifth grade class. We met because he thought I was a bully so he complemented my hair. Then in sixth grade I met Chris through Jon, and later, in tenth grade, Mike, also through Jon. Jon was in a four-year-long relationship with Mike’s older sister. But it’s funny because Jon was the last person to join the band as our drummer.
