LIVE: Murderer’s Row @ Chrome, 6/13/2020
Since the entertainment industry came to an abrupt halt in March, independently owned venues have been hit hard. With no income from ticket or alcohol sales, many are in danger of going out of business. One such local venue, Chrome Food and Spirits in Waterford fits this unfortunate description. It is a family-owned, 100% independent venue. I spoke with Darla Cherry, owner of Chrome. To me, the venue seems like a labor of love for her. We spoke of growing up, seeing shows at Saratoga Winners. She said that Chrome was her vision of that type of venue. Just a great, local space that can attract national touring acts, while giving local, up and coming acts a place to play.
On Saturday, June 13, 2020, Troy rock legends Murderer’s Row took to the stage at an empty Chrome. The event was livestreamed on Facebook Live and was done in conjunction with a GoFundMe which has been set up to benefit Chrome. From the opening notes of “Looking for Aggro” to the last notes of “All We Are”, it was clear that the band didn’t care whether there were 10 people in the room or 1000. They came to play. The dual guitar attack of Leo Curley and Joey Flaw were married perfectly with the pounding rhythm section of Kris Nowhere on bass and Chris Lynch on drums. Singer Bob Riley showed why this band has been around for 20 years, incredible stage presence coupled with a distinct voice. They blasted through fourteen songs in just over an hour. No nonsense, straight up street rock. It was a privilege to be among the very few people in the room.
The GoFundMe is still live and help is definitely welcome. Once life gets back to whatever the new normal is, we will need live entertainment. We will need Chrome. Now more than ever.
