1979: Iran’s new leader, Ayatollah Khomeini, banned rock and roll as a corruptive influence on the people.
1984: Miss America, Vanessa Williams, turned in her crown after it had been discovered that nude photos of her had appeared in Penthouse. She was the first to resign the title.
1985: Commodore unveiled the personal computer Amiga 1000.
1989: Ringo Starr launched his first tour since The Beatles stopped touring in 1966, introducing his All-Starr Band in Dallas.
1994: The International Astronomical Union named an asteroid in Mars’ orbit ZappaFrank, after the musician Frank Zappa, who had passed away from cancer the year before.
2003: The US National Registry of Historic Places declared Sun Studios in Memphis to be a historic landmark.
