LIVE: Bob Gluck Trio play Pat Metheny @ Jazz on Jay, Schenectady, 9/3/2020

The music of guitarist composer Pat Metheny has been part of the fabric of jazz since the late 70s. When I think of Pat’s music. I often reminisce about summer. So it was indeed apropos to include this in the Jazz on Jay music series.

Pianist composer Bob Gluck along with longtime associate bassist Christopher Dean Sullivan and drummer Karl Latham performed this music as a guitarless trio. With Bob’s arrangements, Pat’s unique rounded guitar sound was not missed. The three of them beautifully expressed the melodies of Pat’s music while at the same time exploring tonalities, harmonies and micro-rhythms that have been the hallmark of Pat Metheny’s music.

Longtime favorites such as “Have you Heard” and “James ” were woven into a seamless musical landscape of Pat’s music that seemed to travel from one composition to the next.

The Jazz on Jay series will continue on 9/10 with the Tim Olsen Quintet.
