1935: At age 17, Ella Fitzgerald recorded her first songs – “Love and Kisses” and “I’ll Chase the Blues Away.”
1939: The National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum was dedicated in Cooperstown.
1963: The film “Cleopatra” starring Elizabeth Taylor, Rex Harrison and Richard Burton premiered at the Rivoli Theatre in New York City.
1965: The Beatles received their MBE (Most Excellent Order of the British Empire) awards.
1966: The Dave Clark Five broke a record by becoming the first rock band to make 12 appearances on “The Ed Sullivan Show.”
1969: Mick Taylor was introduced as the new guitarist of the Rolling Stones, replacing Brian Jones.

1990: Mariah Carey’s self-titled debut album was released in the U.S.
1997: Interleague play began in major league baseball, ending a 126-year tradition of separating the American and National leagues until the World Series.
2003: Little Richard, Van Morrison, Queen and Phil Collins were inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
2007: Canada issued postage stamps honoring Gordon Lightfoot, Joni Mitchell, Anne Murray and Paul Anka.
2009: In the U.S., the switch from analog TV trasmission to digital was completed.
