LIVE: Caffe Lena @ SPAC — Day 1, 07/24/2021

Caffe Lena has been a great resource for exploring diverse music. Nippertown music lovers were treated to two full days of free music thanks to the collaboration of Caffe Lena and Saratoga Performing Arts Center this weekend.

This weekend featured six performing acts over the two days on the Charles Wood stage (aka the gazebo).

Day one featured the Lost Radio Rounders, The Sea The Sea, and the Jean Rohe Trio.

Lost Radio Rounders specializes in acoustic music that dominated the American scene during the earlier part of the 20th century. They provided a set of heartfelt covers that are familiar to many including:

“I Know You Rider” (Grateful Dead)
“Wimoweh (The Lion Sleeps Tonight)” (Originally South African, covered by the Weavers and Tokens)
“Boll Weevil Blues” (Leadbelly, Woody Guthrie many others)
“Love in Vain” (Robert Johnson, covered by the Rolling Stones)

The Sea The Sea treated the audience to their widely praised harmonies featuring material from throughout their career and premiering music inspired by the pandemic. The set was highlighted by an original rendition of the Hank Williams classic “I’m So Lonesome, I Could Cry”.

Jean Rohe and her trio completed the afternoon’s concert with her set of originals. Jean’s set was uplifting and it showed her range in various genres, from folk to indie pop.
