Black Sabbitch coming to empire underground with Battleaxxx

Black Sabbitch, an all-female Black Sabbath tribute band will take the stage at Empire Underground on Thursday, January 13th. The band’s last area appearance was almost exactly two years ago on the stage of Upstate Concert Hall on January 11, 2020.

Most “tribute” bands are slavishly devoted to note-for-note perfection. This is one area where Sabbitch deviates from the normal. They embody the songs and make them their own. Ozzy Osborne has such a unique voice. It would be nearly impossible to imitate him. Vocalist Alice Austin can hit all of the same notes, but she confidently hits them as if she wrote the songs. Their sound is anchored by the tight rhythm section of drummer Angie Scarpa and bassist Melanie Makaiwi. They allow guitarist Emily Burton room to display her interpretations of Tony Iommi’s legendary riffs and grooves.

Albany-based “Clitter-rock/Sass-Core” trio Battleaxxx will open the show. Nippertown’s Wendall Wright reviewed their debut album last year. Read it here, get there early, buy some merch, thank me later.

Tickets are still available online from Ticketweb.com and at the Empire Live box office in Downtown Albany.
