LIVE: Marcus King Band/Hannah Wicklund @ The Calvin Theatre, 03/06/2022

Barefoot and shredding, with her cascading head of curls almost serving as a fourth band member, Hannah Wicklund and her band lit up the full house at the gilded Calvin Theatre in Northampton with flaming guitar and fiery voice.  She even integrated a talkbox into her playing!  Opening with “Bomb Through The Breeze” she and her band tore through a hard-rocking set that had the historic venue intoxicated.

Yes, Northampton, Massachusetts is on the outer reaches of Nippertown territory, but we had to check out The Marcus King Band whose unique brand of “soul-influenced psychedelic southern rock”  is quickly making them a hot live act.  They did not disappoint.  Plus in The Calvin Theatre, you can bring your drinks to your seat which quickly created a summer festival atmosphere indoors.  The young King (25) is already an assured bandleader guiding his 6 member band through Allman-esque jams with some jazzy seasoning and supersonic soul. “One Day She’s Here” and “Goodbye Carolina” were standouts.  Catch them live!

Wicklund joined King and his band to close the encore with Neil Young’s “Ohio”.
