The Attic Classic: When Rob Skane was asked in an interview several years ago whether there was any instrument he felt a special kinship with, he said the guitar. Then added “that every day you get to play your guitar is a day you get to play your guitar!”

Rob had released ‘Phantom Power Trip,’ an album that was the culmination of a music career that began in 1994 with ‘Throwing It All Back Up.’ Since that solo acoustic cassette recording, Rob and his guitar had been very busy over the years, whether providing fun, no stress guitar lessons, performing solo shows and fronting his own combo as bandleader, or as a member of other local bands.

Along the way, he released a handful of self-produced solo albums, each exploring different sounds as he sharpened his songwriting skills. All of which came together with the 11-song ‘Phantom Power Trip’ in 2010, each hook-filled tune leaning hard in some form as a guitar-based, singer/songwriters take on new-wave power pop and rock.

More than a decade later, the songs still resonate. “It’s A Great Day” is the Local 518 Attic Classic.
