LIVE: Wynonna Judd @ Cohoes Music Hall, 04/13/2022

Legend. Icon. Superstar. Three adjectives that define Wynonna Judd, yet somehow still seem lacking. From her career beginnings with her mother Naomi in the country duo The Judds to her incredibly successful solo career, Wynonna has inspired generations of artists. Appearing at the 2022 CMT Music Awards on Monday night, The Judds announced their final tour which will begin in September. Two nights later, Wynonna played to a capacity crowd at the Cohoes Music Hall. The intimate venue seemed like the perfect place to warm up for a large-scale arena tour. She was funny, engaging, and personable with the audience. She repeatedly had conversations with individual audience members. One mother brought her nine-year-old son to the concert. Wynonna brought him on stage for a photo. One woman tried to slip out to use the bathroom in between songs. Wynonna asked where she was going.

Taking the stage with her band The Big Noise,” Wynonna wasted no time getting to her hits and giving the fans what they paid for. With a nearly 40-year career to pull from, the set was chock full of hits. She drew from The Judds catalog and her own solo material. She even covered the Elvis Presley classic “Burning Love.” At one point she took out her cell phone and made a FaceTime call to Loretta Lynn. The crowd proceeded to sing happy birthday to Miss Loretta for her 90th birthday.

She noted that the Music Hall is one of her favorite venues to play. Mentioning the beautiful architecture and the impeccable sound quality. By the time she closed the show with her biggest hit “No One Else On Earth,” it was clear that Judd is back on top of her game.
