Rees Shad to Deliver a Great Night of Americana Music at the Strand Theatre in Hudson Falls

HUDSON FALLS – A night of swinging Americana is set to occur in Hudson Falls, as Rees Shad and The Conversations are slated to play the Strand Theatre on April 22nd at 7:30 pm. Coming to the theater with his trio, storied composer and fabulist fictioneer Shad will deliver a terrific night of music with his unique hybrid of Americana, Blues, and Jazz. Music will fill the air as Shad and his band performs songs that span the songwriter’s 30+ albums. Doors to the event open at 6:30 pm.

A native of Manhattan who used his father’s dictaphone to record his first song at the age of four, Shad grew up absorbing New York’s downtown music scene from Gerde’s Folk City to CBGB’s, ingesting the urban world, its inherent rhythms, and human electricity. Years working as a sideman and studio musician working with a variety of bands helped Shad sharpen his instincts as both a creator and a performer before moving to Washington County to immerse himself in rural culture, and build a recording studio (Sweetfish Recording Studios) and start making music in earnest. From his debut album, Walls (1993), to The Watcher (2019), and continuing through songs like “The Mrs & Me” (from The Riggley Road Stories, 1997) and “Esmé” (from Half a World Away, 2014) Shad has proven to be a serial iterator.

He has happily and determinedly reinvented himself every decade or so as his vision and craft have evolved from solo acoustic singer-songwriter to electronic musician (5 albums as Fester Spunk) through comedic rocker (another 7 albums with the troupe Scheissfinger) all now distilled into this insightful craftsman.

The Conversations feature longstanding Shad collaborator/drummer Bobby Kay and bassist Jeff Link who will be joined for this performance by percussionist extraordinaire Carlos Valdez to support Shad in exploring a more improvisational approach to presenting his meticulously crafted narratives. This results in performances akin to the freedoms found in live jazz. With his upcoming album, One Glass at a Time, Shad has brought this energy to the studio and struck a fresh vein of meaning and melody, of a flourishing, reflective future built upon the lessons and loves of the recent past. His new songs possess irresistible melodies imbued with a style & wisdom not found anywhere else in contemporary music.
