Lineup Announced for Johnstown Midsummer Concert Series

JOHNSTOWN – Johnstown Arts & Music Inc. has announced its lineup for the 5th annual Johnstown Midsummer Concert Series. Starting July 21st, this free public concert series will run for four consecutive Thursday evenings. Each concert will take place at the Charles Jenner Bandshell in the park on West Main Street. Audience members are invited to bring lawn chairs or blankets to these fun, family-friendly performances. In the event of rain, concerts will take place inside St. John’s Episcopal Church, adjacent to the park.

The season lineup is as follows:

  • July 21st: The George Fletcher Blues Band, with special guest Tim Vee. Fletcher and his band are renowned blues performers hailing from the Saratoga Springs area and were the winners of the 2021 Capital Region Blues Network’s Blues Band Challenge. Vee is a Fulton County native who has performed as a solo artist and member of numerous bands on the alt-country circuit. 
  • July 28th: Girl Blue, with special guest Carolyn Shapiro. Girl Blue is a singer-songwriter based in Troy who won the 2022 Capital Region Eddie Award for Solo or Duo Artist of the Year. Carolyn Shapiro, a Saratoga-based banjo player and songwriter, recently released her debut album, “Where I’m Supposed to Be,” and won the 2022 Eddie Award for Folk Artist of the Year.
  • August 4th: Howard Fishman, with special guest Alice Sorensen. Fishman, a New York City-based writer and band leader, has toured internationally and has been featured on NPR’s “Fresh Air” and “World Café.” Sorensen, an Amsterdam native, is an up-and-coming songwriter and host of the songwriter spotlight concert series at Great Flats Brewing in Schenectady.
  • August 11th: The Caroga Lake Music Festival. Featuring a variety of performers and ensembles in residence with this year’s festival, this will be the Caroga group’s second annual appearance in the Johnstown Midsummer Concert Series.

“Our fifth annual midsummer concert series is shaping up to be our best and most ambitious yet,” said Johnstown Arts & Music Coordinator Bill Ackerbauer. “We strive to present high-caliber performances in a variety of genres, and this year’s lineup will feature several regional and touring acts that have never before appeared in the Fulton-Montgomery region.”
