A Trio of Jack DeJohnette Shows Celebrate his 80th Birthday

Jack DeJohnette is widely considered to be one of the most influential jazz drummers of all time. A two-time Grammy Winner and 2012 Jazz Master, he has worked extensively as leader and sideman for a whole host of musicians including Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock, Sonny Rollins, Michael Brecker and many more. Born in August of 1942, Bardavon Presents and ShapeShifter Plus are putting on a trio of shows curated by DeJohnette to celebrate his 80 years.

Jack DeJohnette & Savion Glover (8:00 p.m. September 17, Woodstock Playhouse)

This concert pairs two of the world’s great living rhythm specialists in an inspiring musical dialogue, as DeJohnette shares the stage with Savion Glover. Taught by greats like Sammy Davis, Jr., and Gregory Hines, Glover catapulted to fame as The Tap Dance Kid, then captivated the world with Bring in ‘da Noise, Bring in ‘da Funk and as the live action dancer behind Mumble the penguin in Disney’s Happy Feet.

A very special jazz trio featuring DeJohnette, close friend and legendary bassist Dave Holland (2017 Jazz Master, renowned for his work with, among others, Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock, Kenny Barron, Zakir Hussain, Anthony Braxton and Sam Rivers and as a band leader, composer and educator) and pianist, composer, and performance artist Jason Moran (2010 MacArthur Fellow and Artistic Director for Jazz at The Kennedy Center).

A once in a lifetime concert event as DeJohnette is joined by Academy Award, Golden Globe and 5 time Grammy Award winner (including 2022 Album Of The Year – WE ARE), as well as former bandleader and musical director of The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, Jon Batiste. Matthew Garrison—co-founder of ShapeShifter + and one of the most critically acclaimed electric bassists of our time having played with Herbie Hancock, Mahavishnu, John Scofield, and Whitney Houston—rounds out the trio.
