ALBANY – The 2nd annual Mohawk Hudson Folklife Festival will take place Sunday, October 2nd at Washington Park’s Lakehouse Amphitheater from 11 am – 5:30 pm.
Celebrate the moving tapestry and rich cultural traditions of the Capital Region. Join us for a fun-filled day of performances, art, food, and crafts. Artists will demonstrate traditions like henna, pysanky, painting, and braiding! Engage and participate with practitioners and the living traditions right here in the Capital Region. Practitioners hail from New York, the Republic of the Congo, Greece, Myanmar, Afghanistan, and more!
New artists include Jake Krohn who will demonstrate blacksmithing and Sarah Bachinger of the Pysanky for Peace Project, an artist of Ukrainian traditions. New performers include Tatijana Gjergji (Albanian Dance) and ArtsPartners/Tsehaya & Company (Afro-Cuban Dance).
Also new this year is a series of food demonstrations by community cooks. Watch as flavors from around the world are created in front of you! Demonstrations will include Karen fried gourd and fish with Saw Dabu, Dominican empanada with Santa Cabrera, and Congolese Samusa with Huguette Tshiamua. This Festival is free and open to the public. This event is a program of New York Folklore. New York Folklore is a membership organization, open to all, concerned with furthering cultural equity and strengthening the understanding of the role of folk and traditional arts in our lives. We support folk and traditional artists, community cultural experts, community-based cultural organizations, and academic and public sector folklorists.
