Folkfaces, with Special Guests, Micah John and Lillian Chase, to Perform at Caffe Lena, July 6th

SARATOGA SPRINGS – Coming to the renowned Caffe Lena on July 6th is Folkfaces. The genre-bending band, with their unique incorporations of jazz, folk, blues, and punk ethos, is sure to deliver a fantastic night of music. Opening for them that night are Micah John and Lillian Chase.

This ain’t your grandpappy’s jug band. If you like your folk/jazz/blues/punk/Americana/bluegrass wild and weird, you’ve come to the right place. Folkfaces is a quartet that specializes in “rowdy jazz & bluesy roots.” Fronted by songwriter and founder, Tyler Westcott, Folkfaces has an irresistibly danceable energy and a unique versatility, being able to engage a crowd whether busking on the street, playing in a small barroom, or putting on a full electric show at a large music venue. The group plays a mix of original and traditional music, taking influences from what they refer to as “weird old American music.” Their energetic variety show and traveling music review explores a wide range of genres including country blues, traditional jazz, rock and roll, psychedelic, honky tonk, western swing, bluegrass and oldtime jugband music.

Folkfaces hosts an annual camping and roots music festival every Fall in Darien Center, NY called Folkfaces Fest. Past headliners include Dom Flemons, Bruce Molsky, JD Wilkes, Scott H Biram, Abby the Spoon Lady, & Baby Gramps. Rochester City News calls their music a “wonderful, time-warping collection of tunes.” One fan comments: “Hell yeah, boys!”

Micah John is an award-winning fiddler, guitarist, and singer. At only 17, she has spent the last decade immersed in the roots music community of the Northeast and has performed at legendary venues such as Club Passim and The Burren Backroom. Lillian Chase, a 19-year-old fiddler and vocalist grew up enveloped in the old-time and bluegrass scene in and around Asheville, NC, playing Southern venues including Merlefest, and is now studying Music Performance at Berklee College of Music. Micah and Lillian were initially connected by their shared mentor, Bruce Molsky. The two started performing as a duo after placing 1st in the Twin Fiddle category at the 2022 Lowell Banjo & Fiddle Contest, and played a sold-out show at Club Passim in the fall of 2022. Micah and Lillian share a love for old-time tunes and ballads, and interlace sets with newer songs and tunes. Their shows are full of tight harmonies, twin-fiddling, and rocking guitar & fiddle duets.
