Miko Marks & The Resurrectors to Perform at Caffe Lena, Aug. 17th

SARATOGA SPRINGS – Coming to the Caffe Lena stage on Aug. 17th is Miko Marks & The Resurrectors. A must-see artist, Marks, and her band are paving the way in the country genre, approaching the music from unique experiences. This show is part of the venue’s Bright Series.

Miko Marks separates mainstream country from Americana, creating a distinctive amalgam of American sounds informed by her experience as a Black woman singing country. When Marks first appeared in the mid-2000s, she had a traditionalist bent, but when she reemerged with her backing band, the Resurrectors, in 2020, her music expanded to encompass soul, blues, and folk while remaining rooted in the country (AllMusic). A native of Flint, Michigan, Miko Marks was immersed in music as a child, singing gospel in church and madrigal choir in high school. In the early 2000s, Marks won a radio singing contest, which convinced her to pursue a career in country music. In 2005 she released Freeway Bound and a video for her debut single “Mama,” which featured a cameo from Grambling State University classmate and friend Erykah Badu. It earned enough attention to get Marks awarded Best New Country Artist at the New Music Weekly Awards in 2006.

The Wall Street Journal has described Marks’ career as a “genre and industry-defying mission.” NPR declared her a “multilayered experience.” The New York Times commended the movement Marks has embarked on, carving out a new path in country music. Miko Marks’ current sound with her band The Resurrectors deftly blends country, blues, southern rock, and even gospel to create a sound and experience that has literally brought every audience to its feet. This new sound and her warm and soulful spirit catapulted her into a community of change, with her doing more than breaking ground – she’s shattering it. It’s a serendipitous realization that Marks was meant to be here, at this time, at this moment, for good.
