Daytripper: Steven Page Trio @ The Great NYS Fair, 08/23/2023

The Great New York State Fair in Syracuse is once again resonating with the sweet sounds of live music as a slew of free concerts takes center stage. With a bevy of performances set to grace two distinctive stages throughout the fair’s duration, attendees are in for a musical treat that’s sure to strike a chord.

Syracuse’s Own Steven Page Trio Strikes the Right Notes

Taking the spotlight at the fair’s opening on the Suburban Park Stage was none other than the Steven Page Trio. Hailing from Syracuse and recognized as the former frontman of Canadian Pop icons Barenaked Ladies, Steven Page showcased his musical prowess alongside his talented bandmates, Kevin Fox on cello and Craig Northey on lead guitars. Northey, a member of the 90’s band Odds, shared history with Barenaked Ladies as they once toured together.

While treating the audience to a mix of newer compositions, the trio sent waves of excitement through the crowd by revisiting beloved Barenaked Ladies classics. The atmosphere truly ignited as timeless hits like “It’s All Been Done,” “The Old Apartment,” “Jane,” “What A Good Boy,” “Call & Answer,” “Enid,” and “Brian Wilson” filled the air. Yet, these weren’t mere replicas; the trio delivered a refreshing take on these iconic tracks, offering a stripped-down, authentic experience that left concertgoers entranced.

The Suburban Park Stage has set a remarkable tone for what promises to be a captivating musical journey throughout the Great New York State Fair. As the fair’s pulse quickens with melodies that resonate, attendees can anticipate a harmonious blend of nostalgia and innovation that will linger in their ears long after the final notes fade.
