Shamarr Allen and the Underdawgs Brings New Orleans to Saratoga

SARATOGA SPRINGS – On October 15, Caffe Lena will be bringing the sounds of New Orleans to its stage, as it hosts Shamarr Allen and the Underdawgs! The band is gon’ funk you up with their infectious and irresistible blend of jazz, hip-hop, rock, and R&B – true New Orleans sound at its finest.

Hailing from the Lower 9th Ward, Shamarr Allen is the definition of New Orleans. Aside from being a talented trumpeter from ‘True Orleans,’ Allen is also known for his personal style of turning his ideas into t-shirts. He says that once a light goes off in his head with a new slogan, he likes to capture that feeling and make it a reality by creating a t-shirt. Some of his favorite slogans are “The Trumpet is My Weapon,” “Music is My Political Party,” and “True Orleans.”

His musical influences run the gamut, including jazz, hip-hop, rock, funk, blues and country. When asked to describe himself, Allen says: “First, I am just a trumpeter from ‘True Orleans,’ doing what a ‘True Orleanian’ does. I am a musician, entertainer, producer and teacher who is working hard doing my part to make New Orleans a better place through music.”

Today one of Allen’s most noteworthy projects is teaching a free music class every Tuesday to anyone wanting to learn. In addition to performing with his band, The Underdawgs, Allen has collaborated with many renowned artists around the world such as Willie Nelson, Patti LaBelle, Harry Connick Jr., and Lenny Kravitz.
