The Attic Classic: The startup version of alternative garage rockers NORTH AGAIN was ready to play in 1992. And play they did, as much and wherever they could. Founding members Kostas “Gus” Hais (g/v), Jamie St. Denis (b), Rob Wheeler (d/v) and Larry Winchester (g) hit those stages hard, putting on loud, sloppy, angst-ridden rock n roll shows—and I mean that in the best possible way.

Late that year, they caught the attention of Howie Glassman, who booked them frequently at Albany rock club Bogies. It didn’t take long for Paint Chip Records guru and founder of legendary Albany band Dirty Face, Dominick Campana, to take notice of them.

The band signed on to Dom’s label and, in April of 1993, recorded and released their debut 7-inch single, pressed onto blue vinyl, the rocking “Throw Yourself” b/w a short instrumental “Black Guitar.” It gave the band a boost, expanded their following in the area, and got some good reviews from national underground ‘zines.

Two more songs appeared on the 1993 Paint Chip compilation CD ‘Lead Into Gold.’ North Again continued to record several more records and play shows until it all finally ended around the year 2000. Out of the ashes rose the guitar-driven modern rock of Blackcat Elliot, but that is an Attic Classic for another day.

The Attic Classic is “Throw Yourself” from that first single.
