No Fun November Highlights – Jeffrey Lewis, Adult Mom, Dumbo Gets Mad, Screaming Females & More!

August is back to highlight the crazy month at No Fun in Troy. In case you haven’t heard, winter is coming so you might want to consider a venue with a lot of dancing and bodies moving and parking not far away. See you this November.

November 2nd: Jeffrey Lewis / The Burning Hell / Greens ($12 ADV / $16 DOS)

Jeffrey Lewis and his various bandmates have perfected a scuzzy, urban style of indie-folk, developing from late-90s New York City bedroom tapes into a mighty 21st Century mash-up of folksy spiel and artsy garage, like Pete Seeger meeting Sonic Youth. The Burning Hell is the ongoing musical project of songwriter Mathias Kom and multi-instrumentalists Ariel Sharratt and Jake Nicoll, often including additional comrades and collaborators. Local support with a rare appearance by Greens.

November 4th: Adult Mom / Tiny Blue Ghost / Stella & The Reptilians ($10 ADV / $15 DOS)

Adult Mom began as the solo project of Stevie Knipe in a Purchase College dorm room in 2012. Adult Mom now falls between the playful spectrum of solo project and collaborative band with beloved friends and musicians Olivia Battell and Allegra Eidinger. Support with return appearances by the excellent Tiny Blue Ghost as well as Stella & the Reptilians.

November 8th: Dumbo Gets Mad / Psymon Spine / Adequate Phil ($14 ADV / $18 Door)

Dumbo Gets Mad is a psychedelic pop project based in Italy. They were founded in early 2011 in Los Angeles by Luca Bergomi, who released his debut album Elephants at the Door. The album showcased a fresh approach to a mixture of musical styles and established the project as psychedelic pop that has continued to evolve. Opening set with the return of the incredibly fancy Psymon Spine who has roots in the area via Skidmore College. Troy’s Adequate Phil opens up the night.

November 9th: Golden Grass / Flavour / Haunted Cat ($9 ADV / $13 DOS)

Hard and heavy, swinging, progressive boogie rock… that’s The Golden Grass! This NYC power trio embodies the glory of harmony filled, catchy and tough rock n roll of the 60s / 70s! But these boys are no revisionists! They are post-modern collagists, connecting the dots between heavy glam rock boogie, jazzy psychedelia, stompin’ proto-metal, bluesy prog rock and southern hard rock. Troy glam rockers Flavour & Haunted Cat kick the party off.

November 11th: Screaming Females / Dazy / Sunbloc ($16 ADV / $20 DOS)

Formed in New Brunswick, NJ in 2005, Screaming Females is Marissa Paternoster (guitar, vox), Mike Abbate (bass), and Jarrett Dougherty (drums). Over six albums and more than a decade of music making, the band has remained deeply individual and steadfastly DIY. They have also grown into one of the most dynamic and devastating touring bands going today. Support from Dazy, one-man band of James Goodson, the Richmond-based artist (and music publicist) who’s played in a number of noisy punk outfits over the years like Teen Death and Bashful. The lads in Sunbloc kick off the gig. By the time you read this the show is probably sold out tbh.

November 16th: Razor Braids / Candy Ambulance / Canella ($9 ADV / $13 DOS)

Razor Braids is a queer, all-female/non-binary rock band from Brooklyn combing the vulnerable self awareness of indie rock with dynamic instrumentation anchored in a 90s alternative ethos. Through soaring harmonies and a driving rhythm section the band has honed a magnetic sound that is a testament to the healing power and catharsis of community. Stacked local support on this gig with Candy Ambulance & Canella.

November 18th: String Machines / Raavi / Rover / Dan LaFave & Shannon Straney ($9 ADV / $13 DOS)

The music of String Machine is rapturous and inviting. You’ll find an undeniable magic within each note, a palpable energy owed in part to its creative process. Hallelujah Hell Yeah is an album of joy, vulnerability, and forgiveness. Through this inventive indie rock, seven friends manage to transport you to the bedrooms, basements, and home studios in which this was all created, conceptualized, and recorded. Opening sets by Raavi, Rober as well as Dan LaDave & Shannon Straney. This is going to be another true ripper.

November 24th: Broken Vow / Cold Kiss / Spiritkiller / Cinnamon / Deal With God ($10 ADV / $15 Door)

At the end of the month we team up with the folks at Albany Hardcore for an annual Black Friday hardcore show. Headlined by Broken Vow the night is filled with some of the best local and regional hardcore bands. See you in the pit.
