“New Beginnings” at the Woodstock Playhouse

The new season of the Woodstock Symphony Orchestra at Woodstock Playhouse begins Sunday, Nov. 19, with newly appointed artistic director Mina Kim.

Kim — also the musical director of the Purchase Symphony orchestra — has been honing her skills and composing her passion for the arts. For the 2023-2024 season, along with her artistic directorships, Kim will perform a spectrum of symphonic, operatic, and contemporary works, including cross-genre collaborations with Soul Voices and the School of Film and Media Studies of Purchase College creating a new form of exhibition with music by Philip Glass.

Kim will be conducting three symphony orchestras at the Playhouse this season.

On Nov. 19, the Woodstock Symphony Orchestra will be performing “New Beginnings.” The performance will feature four pieces, followed by a “meet the conductor” reception.

The pieces include Respighi’s Ancient Airs and Dances Suite No. 1, Vivaldi’s Guitar Concerto in D with Soloist Gregory Dinger, Verdi’s Overture to La Forza del Destino, and Dvorak’s Symphony No. 8.

Tickets for all of the orchestra performances are currently on sale. For the “New Beginnings” performance, ticket prices range from $12 for students to $33 for adults at the Ulster County venue.
