Media organizations team to launch new monthly concert series @ The Linda

ALBANY — There’s exciting news for local music fans: Nippertown, WAMC and WEXT are teaming to launch “Live and Local at The Linda,” a new monthly concert series with a mission to showcase up-and-coming bands in the Capital Region.

The first concert is set for Jan. 5 at 7:30 PM at The Linda-WAMC’s Performing Arts Studio, offering an evening packed with great music and superb homegrown talent.

For the kickoff event the lineup includes three local bands: New American Cuisine, Barbie Barker and The E-Block.

“These groups represent the rich and varied music scene we have here in the Capital Region and they’re sure to put on a great show,” said Chris Wienk, program director of WEXT.

Supporting local musicians is a huge part of the three organizations’ missions, which is why Nippertown, WAMC and WEXT are covering all other expenses so that the bands get the full benefit of ticket sales. All ticket proceeds go directly to the bands, underscoring the combined commitment of the presenters to nurturing and supporting the dynamic local music scene.

“It’s an unprecedented collaboration and opportunity we’re really excited about,” said Peter Hughes, general manager and programmer of The Linda. “We all wanted to do something spectacular that puts our money where our mouths were on local music. Live and Local at The Linda is that.”

“The goal of Live and Local at The Linda is to bring new and exciting bands to the stage each month,” said Jim Gilbert, publisher of Nippertown. “We want to create a space where the quality of music speaks for itself, encouraging people to come out and discover new talent, whether they’re familiar with the bands or not.”

To celebrate the inaugural concert, a special ticket price of just $10 for the first show is being offered. This is a chance to enjoy top-notch local music at a great price. All tickets for future shows will be $20, with proceeds going directly to the bands.
