Attic Classic:  CAN’T SAY rode in from Guilderland on the third wave ska revival of the late ’80s and 90’s. Originally a metal band, they gradually incorporated the off-beat ska rhythms and walking bass lines with the harder edge of punk and alternative rock, early on becoming among the bands to map out a way to mix the genres together.

Their self-titled debut in 1993 solidified their sound and the core band members of Albie von Schaaf on vocals and guitar, Ian Cipkowski on bass, and Bill Ketzer on drums. For 1995’s ‘The Kings of Crunchska,’ the album added two tenor saxes (Tony Bryan and Jamie Uzzo) and an alto sax (Justin Birk) to the mix.

The Attic Classic is “Boy’s Life,” the second track off the “Kings…” CD. Here’s a clip of the band, reunited for one night back in December 2013, performing the Attic Classic at the venerable Albany music club Valentines before the place was closed and leveled:
