New Year’s Eve: so many options

If you’re looking to ring in the new year locally there’s no shortage of things to do. We rounded up happenings that range from fancy gatherings to 5k road races to ball drops and bonfires – and a bunch of live music, of course.  

Some events are ticketed or require reservations. Check out the details below. 

Saratoga New Year’s Fest in Saratoga Springs

Ring in the New Year at the region’s premiere New Year’s Eve gathering in Saratoga Springs. Now known as the Saratoga New Year’s Fest, the event is considered the biggest New Year’s Eve celebration north of Times Square in New York City. The festivities kick off with a fireworks display at 6 p.m. on New Year’s Eve and continue with music performances at venues throughout the Spa City. The celebration continues New Year’s Day with a 5k road race to mark the turning of the calendar.

Improv show and ball drop 

Celebrate the new year at Mopco Improv Theatre (10 N. Jay St., Schenectady). The event features a family-friendly improv show ending with an early evening ball drop. Starting at 7 p.m. on Sunday, an improv group will use audience suggestions and willing volunteers to create stories, characters and songs in a one-of-a-kind performance.

Neon New Year

Kaleidoscope: New Year’s Eve 2024” at Crowne Plaza Albany – The Desmond Hotel offers a neon, color-rush adventure that will light up the night. There will be three separate dance floors and music from two bands, Funk Evolution and Skeeter Creek. There will also be music from DeeJay Element. The event will include entertainment from New York City-based LED drummers Industrial Rhythm and the watch performance troupe CirqOvation. 

The event includes four hours of open bar (including mixed drinks, beer, wine, champagne and a surprise signature drink), dinner, dessert and late-night menu (including passed hors d’oeuvres, food displays and chef-manned stations).

Admission-only tickets are available for $195, not including an overnight stay, and can be purchased on the Desmond Hotel website.

NYE Party – Funk Night featuring Beau Sasser’s Escape Plan

Celebrate New Year’s Eve at the Twisted Fiddler with an all-inclusive event. Your ticket comes with beer, wine and cocktails; all-you-can-eat food stations and hors d’oeuvres (menu available in the ticket link); champagne toast at midnight; three sets of live music from Beau Sasser’s Escape Plan, including a special New Year’s set featuring Beau Sasser (Kung Fu), Rob Somerville (Deep Banana Blackout), Justin Henricks and Will Carroll.

Tickets are $161.90 and can be purchased on Twisted Fiddler’s Eventbrite.

Rave into the new year

Countdown to the new year with Community Rave Network at Catskill’s Avalon Lounge. From 8 p.m. Sunday to 2 a.m. Monday, DJs from Community Rave Network will be playing a mix of music for an electrifying celebration.

A singles’ new year

New Year, New Boo: The Capital Region Singles Event of the Year is taking place at Toro Cantina (111 Wolf Road, Albany) today. So don your black and gold attire, as requested by the venue, to meet new people and possibly spark a connection. The event features passed and stationary hors d’ oeuvres, a buffet-style dinner, a dessert bar, a cash bar, champagne toast, a photo booth and tarot card readings.

Dance in the new year 

Mark the arrival of the new year at 550 Waterfront by Druthers with a bash to bid farewell to 2023 from 7:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. Dance the night away with live music from Dazy, who sang the viral song “Sunroof,” and indulge in delicious food, an open bar and breathtaking views of Saratoga Lake. It’s also an opportunity to ring in the new year with friends old and new.

Opal Essence’s New Year’s Eve Dragtacular!

If you love drag or theater, here’s an exceptional show. Opal Essence, accompanied by her squirrel friends Violencia Exclamation Point and Onyx Ondyx, alongside appearances from Paris LuRux, Lexxi Pro and London Jae Precise, presents an unforgettable event on New Year’s Eve.

An exclusive VIP experience is available for an extra $15 beyond the ticket cost. Limited quantities are available, offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Enjoy a photo opportunity with the queens and priority access to general admission seats.

A night of rock ’n’ roll 

Celebrate the New Year at Murphy’s Law Public House in Leeds with live music in two sets. Murphy’s welcomes DeadBeat Barry and the Wreckage for the second time from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. The rock ‘n’ roll band will play music from the Rolling Stones, Tom Petty, Led Zeppelin and the Grateful Dead, among others. The bar will stay open until 2 a.m.

Ring in the new year with the Felice Brothers

Join the Felice Brothers at the Colony in Woodstock on Saturday or Sunday and celebrate the new year with the Palenville natives who have made their name nationally known. The folk-Americana-rock-country band incorporates the local area in their songs, making their appreciation for where they came from evident.

Midnight Ramble at Levon Helm Studios

Celebrate rock ‘n’ roll on New Year’s Eve at the Helm Family Midnight Ramble. The Midnight Ramble has preserved and furthered Levon Helm’s legacy for nearly two decades, playing the iconic music of The Band and Levon Helm. This celebration will include the Woodstock native musical duo Roche Collins.

The Refrigerators: New Year’s Eve party and countdown to 2024 at Rivers Casino & Resort 

Party and count down to 2024 with The Refrigerators. On top of that, memorialize the night’s festivities with unlimited use of a NYE photo booth by Silly Snaps, complimentary party favors and a complimentary champagne toast at midnight.

Throwback to the Future: ‘80s & ‘90s New Year’s Eve Bash

Ring in 2024 at the Throwback to the Future: ‘80s & ‘90s New Year’s Eve Bash. DJ Queen Beatz will be playing your favorite songs all night.

Revisit the past and celebrate New Year’s Eve with an ‘80s and ‘90s party. Embark on a nostalgic journey immersed in the groovy tunes and fantastic vibes of yesteryear.

DJ Queen Beatz will spin hits from the ‘80s and ‘90s all night long, culminating in a sparkling mead toast at midnight. Enjoy free parking at the Albany County lot at 206 Washington Ave. in Albany, available from 5 p.m. to 5 a.m. Entry is restricted to those 21 and older; tickets are $20 with a valid ID required. The First Night of Funny at Proctors

A Proctors tradition returns. This New Year’s Eve, say goodbye to 2023 with a hilarious night of laughter that everyone will enjoy, but that won’t break the bank. The annual First Night of Funny event showcases four professional comedians with four unique and hilarious perspectives on the world. This is your last chance to laugh in 2023 and will offer something for everyone.

Indian Ladder’s New Year’s Eve bonfire

This free event from 5 to 8:30 p.m at Indian Ladder will collect Christmas trees, offering a free drink in exchange for each tree contributed. The New Year’s Eve ball drop is set for an early countdown at 10 p.m., marking the culmination of the evening’s festivities. Attendees are encouraged to dress warmly and gather around the bonfire, or opt for the warmth of the cozy tasting room.

New Year’s Eve at Shaker & Vine

Join Shaker & Vine this New Year’s Eve for an unforgettable night as they welcome 2024. With a general admission ticket patrons will enjoy an open bar from 8 to 11:30 p.m. (house wine, house liquor, all beer and soda), a charcuterie bar, passed hors d’oeuvres and a dessert bar. Watch the ball drop on the big screen and celebrate with a champagne toast and noisemakers at midnight. Specialty cocktails will also be available for purchase. Music by DJ Ketchup.

Bearsville New Year’s Eve Bash

Immerse yourself in the music of Sean Matthew Whiteford & the House Party Band on a journey through decades, from the swinging ‘60s to the chart-topping hits of today from 8:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. After the live music, Bearsville will welcome two DJs from 11 p.m. to 3 a.m. to keep the dancing and party alive, with a balloon drop as the clock strikes midnight. 

Bearsville’s New Year’s Eve Bash has tickets available for both general admission and VIP seating for two, and VIP group seating for 15 people, from $35 to more than $2,000. Tickets and information are available at https://bearsvilletheater.com/.
