Two Buttons Deep launches “Big Tip Energy” project supporting Capital Region Restaurants

Fundraising efforts aim to give restaurants their “biggest tip ever received”

Two Buttons Deep (“2BD”) have launched their newest fundraising project, “Big Tip Energy,” providing financial support for restaurants throughout the Capital Region. For the next 10 weeks, 2BD will visit a Capital Region restaurant and start a 24-hour fundraising effort to help collect the biggest tip the restaurant has ever seen and deliver it to them the following week.

The project, sponsored by CDTA, debuted earlier this month beginning with La Capital Tacos in Troy. The initial goal of $250 was quickly surpassed when $700 was contributed by 35 donors in just 24 hours. The collected funds were donated the next day with the owner confirming it to be their biggest tip ever received. In their second week, $1650 was raised and matched by the recipient, Jim’s Tastee Freez, collecting over $3,300 total for the Pandemic Produce Pickup in Albany. As of now, a grand total of $4,000 was raised in two weeks.

2BD will be accepting donations for each restaurant via Venmo (@twobuttonsdeep) and 100 percent of the collections will be given directly to each restaurant. Those who contribute at least $10 in donations via Venmo will be entered to win a $100 gift card to the featured restaurant that week, provided by CDTA.

The overall concept is designed to encourage Capital Region residents to give “Big Tip Energy” in the form of a generous tip when dining out or ordering takeout from local restaurants struggling with the ongoing effects of the pandemic.

“We are excited to work with Jack and Taylor to support a variety of area restaurants with Big Tip Energy,” said Jonathan Scherzer, CDTA’s Director of Marketing. “We all know the challenges faced by small business right now, and we hope everyone can order, donate, or pass along these stories to help make a difference.”

Viewers are encouraged to send 2BD suggestions on local restaurants to be included in this project and to give their own generous tips when dining out themselves.
