The Strand Theatre to Host Sugar & The Tree’s Rootsenanny, Featuring Local, Stellar Bluegrass Bands, July 21st

HUDSON FALLS – Hosting what is billed as a Rootsenanny, on July 21st, The Strand Theatre is set to feature three incredible acts. Led by Sugar & The Tree, the night will also feature Keanen Stark and Orion Kribs, and The Bluebillies. An evening dedicated to the rich, lush sounds of bluegrass, folk, and roots-music, this will surely make for a night not-to-be-missed!

Keanen and Orion have brought their blend of modern yet classically old-timey sounds to many appreciative audiences in the Northeast and beyond. Keanen Stark (guitar, harmonica, banjo) “is becoming a master of the old-time folk styles of Woody Guthrie. A folk singer in the truest sense, with a knack for cross-harp, his stripped down minimalist take on traditional folk music is sure to please.” Orion Kribs (mandolin, guitar) “is a world class mandolin player capable of breakneck speed and nuanced solo work. Orion has also played in the Celtic bluegrass band The McKrells, among others, and is an endorsee of Godin-Seagull guitars.” Each a capable lead vocalist, Stark and Kribs swap old-timey folk, blues, bluegrass, and classic Americana tunes, and dabble at entertaining endless other influences and flights of fancy.

The Bluebillies don’t just sing Country songs; they embody them, performing their unique blend of country, bluegrass and folk music with traditional style, sound and spirit. Husband and wife team Mark and Melody Guarino have been singing together since 1984 when they first made it their mission to help revive and preserve the rich heritage of this great and uniquely American art form. With the addition of the Frank Orsini on fiddle and guitarist Greg Bucking, The Bluebillies were complete and perform together with all the joy and simpatico that only a “family” band can produce. The Bluebillies produce a series of traveling Old-time Gospel Music Revues each season, and also host their own gospel music open mic each summer, and have released three CD’s.

Sugar & The Tree is a roots, Americana duo featuring the songs of Heather Richards & Marc Vincent. This year saw the songwriting duo release their debut EP, High Lonesome Wind.

In the spirit of Grand ol’ Opry multi-act shows, [we’re] carrying the local torch in the same tradition of bringing groups of musicians together for a mutli-bill evening of common grassroots, country & western, newgrass, and Roots/Americana all relative to each other. A one night only event currently touring theaters big and small this summer into fall, audiences can expect quality entertainment for the whole family featuring local Country & Western heroes, The Bluebillies and Newgrass greats Orion Kribs & Keanen Stark with Sugar & The Tree hosting and headlining the event. All happening at the beautiful and historical Strand Theatre stage in Hudson Falls, NY.”
