Jinjer Brings Progressive Metal to Empire Live, Aug. 13th

ALBANY – On Aug. 13th, Empire Live is all set to host an intense night of progressive metal and rock. Featuring a performance by Ukrainian quartet Jinjer, and an opening set by Until I Wake, audiences will get a chance to witness a visceral slate of music.

Through their relentless hard work, non-stop touring, and critically acclaimed/chart-breaking releases that have clocked more than 250 million streams/views across all platforms globally, Jinjer are truly one of modern metal’s hottest and most exciting bands around. The band has become synonymous with doing things their own way and breaking every rule in the heavy metal handbook, which they made loud and clear on their hugely successful fourth studio album, Wallflowers, released in 2021.

The group’s journey, rooted in Donetsk and now based in Kyiv, was propelled into prominence with the addition of vocalist Tatiana Shmayluk in 2010. The band labored intensively and relentlessly honed their sound in practice rooms and local stages, culminating in their now cult 2012 album Inhale, Do Not Breathe, and multiple awards for Best Ukrainian Metal Band. While most bands from a country not exactly known for its Heavy Metal exports would be content to enjoy the recognition gained in those first few years, it was clear that Jinjer craved more and were willing to go the distance to make this happen. It was this attitude and clear vision that led to the release of their second album, Cloud Factory, in 2014, and an assertive foray into international touring on their own terms.

Despite the setbacks caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, Jinjer’s resilience shone through. In 2020, they became the first international band to perform live across European borders during the pandemic. The release of their live album, Alive in Melbourne, conveyed a sense of hope amidst uncertainty. In a bold move, the band unveiled their most ambitious work to date in August 2021 with the aforementioned Wallflowers. This album demonstrates Jinjer’s signature sound and encapsulates the emotional tumult of recent global events. From the blast beat-laden banger “Colossus” to the ’90s grunge vibe of “Disclosure!” to the dark and gloomy psychedelic ride of “Wallflower”, Jinjer’s fourth record set a new standard for creativity in modern metal, combining technical prowess with a reflection of the world’s challenging climate.
