Brian Fallon brings the anthems to Troy, November 15th

TROY – Fresh off the release of History Books, the first record in nine (!) years from the newly reunited Gaslight Anthem, Brian Fallon will bring a rare solo performance to the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall on November 15th. Nothing if not prolific, Fallon has a vast catalog we expect him to pull from for this set, including not only material from his beloved band, but his three solo records as well.

Amidst The Gaslight Anthem’s extended hiatus, Fallon managed to release three solo albums: 2016’s Painkillers, 2018’s Sleepwalkers, and 2020’s Local Honey. History Books manages to combine the traits that longtime fans love about the Gaslight Anthem’s catalog, with the best of his solo work – not to mention, squeeze in a collaboration with the one and only Bruce Springsteen!

Before this, Local Honey saw Fallon getting more introspective than ever before, with eight of the quietest tracks he’s ever released including more than one tearjerker. (His ode to fatherhood, ‘When You’re Ready’, gets me every time, with lyrics like ‘I don’t want you to grow up / ‘Cus I don’t want you to leave / When you’re ready to choose someone / Make sure they love you half as much as me…’) Meticulous in its lyricism and bare in its soundscape, the early-pandemic release offered Fallon’s fans new insight into the songwriter.

At the time, Fallon reflected on his newfound creative journey by saying, “I just want to tell stories and write songs that mean something to me. And if you’re aging the same way I am, then hopefully they mean something to you too.”

Songs like ‘Michigan, 1975’ and ‘The Weatherman’ off of History Books sound like logical successors to the palette he began exploring on Local Honey. But fans of The ’59 Sound, arguably The Gaslight Anthem’s most revered record, will be pleased to unearth songs like ‘Little Fires’ and ‘Spider Bites’.
